I am truly honored to serve the community as the General Utility Manager, a role that was handed down at the retirement of my former mentor of 40 years. My journey has been a testament to perseverance and longevity, proving that dedication pays off in opportunity and service.
My career in the workforce began at the young age of 15 when I started working for First National Bank, followed by employment at a local grocery store until I completed junior college. At the age of 19, I moved to ASU Jonesboro to pursue higher education. In the summer of 1984, during the break between my junior and senior year of college, I joined Searcy Water Utility. As graduation approached, the utility reached out to discuss my plans for the future. It was a pivotal moment as I realized my true calling lay within the environmental science field.
With a formal education in Physical and Cultural Geography, accompanied by a minor in Sociology and an associate degree in liberal studies, I have been able to channel my passion into a lifelong career. Over the years, I have earned professional licenses in Grade IV Water Treatment, Distribution, Wastewater, and Industrial Wastewater. This expertise has provided me with opportunities to share my knowledge and experiences as a speaker at professional events across the country and as a contributor of professional articles to trade journals.
Delivering essential water services to our community is a responsibility I hold as a divine calling. Each day brings new learning experiences and challenges, making my career an ongoing adventure. Interestingly enough, my family history seems intertwined with the water industry. My maternal grandfather and uncle were plumbers, while my grandmother, aunt, and mother managed water utility offices in Judsonia for many years. It feels as though divine directing drew me into this vortex, and I cannot imagine being anywhere else.
We must humbly acknowledge that our customers rely solely on our water services, and it is our duty to earn and maintain their highest level of trust. Regardless of the circumstances, we strive to instill unwavering public confidence, offering uninterrupted service around the clock. A community cannot thrive or progress without a robust and adaptable water utility system. Though the vocation is not without its challenges, it is undeniably a blessing to impact countless lives daily by providing safe and reliable water services.
Water, often taken for granted, serves as a validation of our commitment to achieving our goals: a reputation of trusted reliability and safety within our community. We have come a long way, and our continuous dedication ensures that we meet and surpass the expectations of our customers, contributing to the constant growth and well-being of our community.
